Aims / Goals

About 4 Million women with disability are living in Germany. The main aim of Weibernetz is to improve the living-situation of women and girls with disabilities and / or chronic diseases.

The Principals of the association are

• Human rights-based principles
• Non-discrimination
• Barrier-free environments and offers
• Recognition of women with disabilities as the experts on their own concerns
• Open-mindedness in terms of one's kind of disability, the age, the sexual, political or religious orientation
• Independency in terms of political parties and religious denominations

Board

The board of Weibernetz is build up by five women on an equal footing; they all have a disability on their own. The work is done on an honorary basis.

Statements

Written statements to relevant federal draft laws, participation in hearings.

Attending the implementation of laws

Attending the implementation of relevant federal laws as for example the Social Code Book Nine, the Act on Equal Opportunities for Disabled Persons, the General Equal Treatment Act (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlunhsgesetz).

Work in Committees

Weibernetz is a founding member of the German Disability Council and is member in the German Women's Council. Furthermore Weibernetz is represented in several committees as for example the Federal and Länder working group on Domestic Violence, Advisory council of the Violence against Women Support Hotline, Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence – Alliance (Istanbul-Convention), CEDAW-Alliance (CEDAW= Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Violence against Women), Advisory Council on Inclusion at the State Coordination Agency (according to Article 33 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - UNCRPD), consultation of associations of the CRPD monitoring body at the German Institute for Human Rights, Expert Advisory Board of the Federal Working Committee on Rehabilitation and more.

Representatives of Weibernetz are in touch with members of the federal parliament, with speakers of the parties and with federal ministries and their staffs.

Networking

Weibernetz supports networking of and coordination among the lobby groups of women with disabilities. We also give support in founding new lobby groups or networks of women with disabilities in Germany.

Financing/Donations

The work within the association is done on an honorary basis. Since 2003 the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth sponsors the project "Political representation of interests of women with disabilities". On the basis of this financing, the wide lobby work can be done by three part-time staff members.

Since 2008 the same Federal Ministry also sponsors several projects for “Women’s Representatives in Institutions”. Actually, there are 6 part-time staff members working in the ongoing project.

For other special projects improving the living-situation of women with disabilities, the association depends on donations. Please support our work.

Weibernetz e.V. is registered as a non-profit-organisation. As an association of common interest we can issue donation receipts.

Women with disabilities can have full membership; women without disabilities can become sustaining member. Also associations, organisations and networks for women with and without disabilities are welcomed as members in Weibernetz.
